I have a dilemma. Towing capacity is 5k. Trailer and car will come in around 6k. Does anyone have experience hauling over the max with their taco?
I've read some posts on here but I'm looking for some direct responses.

    Thanks!

    Sure.
Take it real easy, watch your gauges.
Remember that it takes a long time to stop. Drive accordingly.

So I'm not likely going to ruin anything (manual trans) as long as I'm taking it easy?

I have heard the manual transmission is weaker than the auto. are you towing a 5th wheel? I don't think you can double tow unless its a 5th wheel plus vehicle.

the tow max is a safe zone to cover the manufacturer so I'm sure you could exceed it by a bit and still be alright.

Too much weight for your truck..If you were to have a wreck your insurance could possibly not cover you.You could also have major legal issues on your hands if you hurt or killed someone in an accident. If you insist on towing anyway I would make sure you invest in a good quality brake controller..

Very valid point on the insurance and at fault for an accident due to negligence.

    Thanks for the feedback!!

I towed too much weight once not realizing the total load weight I had, but I did have a break controller. I pulled off the freeway and drove the back streets to my destination. When I finally stopped I had bent my stock springs and blew out my shocks. Trying to save time and an extra trip cost me a ton. Plus I was lucky I did not hit anyone. Now I tow much less then what I can.

    good luck

No way would I tow 6,000 lbs with that tacoma, depending on distance and terrain, it could be disaster, for you your truck and possibly others

Does your truck have a trailer brake controller? I know my truck doesn't have one and it get's sketchy towing anything over 3000 lbs. 2002 v6 4x4

around town may be a different issue but when I hauled 2k lbs (trailer and 2 motorcycles) on the highway even the v6 was just able to handle it doing 65-70 (max). the lack of "low-end" torque makes the engine work harder. then again these are not designed to be heavy haulers, just weekend outing with boats and other watercraft/atv.
