My 03 Tacoma 3.4L has been acting funny and the power steering has been whining, I recently replaced all of my belts and the squeal is still there if not worse. Could this be a bad bearing or maybe the power steering pump is cooked?

Most Possibly, I have new belts and my alternator bearing squeaks at initial start till the truck warms up. Then good for the day. I can clearly hear it confined to that area. But what does your fluid in the pump reservoir look like. I just did a refresh on mine.

Welcome aboard, it sounds like two different problems here.

The whining, sometimes a groaning sound: does it worsen when you turn left/right? This is your pump. Have you removed the reservoir, cleaned the screen, gave it a good flush? If all that's in order yes maybe the pump is going.

Does the squeal persist or is it just on startup or other certain times? This is almost always related to belts, most often the alternator belt. Mine was driving me nuts, I thought it was too tight but slowly inched it tighter and the squeal went away. I was wrong.

Yes it does worsen when turning. I will go through the process of giving it a good flush sometime this week. But the squeal is persistent yes, it may be the same ordeal and I need to tighten the alternator belt. I will give it a try and let you know. Thank you good sir!

There are some other more expensive things that can cause a constant squeal from that area, but make sure those two are in order first.

Give the belts (1 at a time) a good spray from a spray bottle (water). If the squeal stops, you know which one to adjust tension.

    Agree with rocknbil

Clean screen that is incorporated in the reservoir

seen that new pump installed and same issue still there…..clogged screen the culprit
Need new p/s reservoir O ring and 2-3 cans of brake cleaner/new atf fluid as parts to buy
