A buddy of mine has a shop and I asked him what he thought of my restored 2003 Tacoma. He said "It's the second nicest 2003 I've seen."

I asked what was the best one? Apparently a few weeks ago someone brought in a 2003 Tacoma Double Cab that had a grand total of 9 miles on the odometer. They bought it brand new 15 years ago for $23K, parked it in the garage and just left it there - NEVER EVEN DROVE IT. My buddy drained the perfectly clean oil out of it, replaced it with fresh oil, went through a restart process and it fired right up - runs perfectly.

The truck is a time machine - he said it smells and looks like a brand new truck. Not sure what the owners will end up doing with it. The local Toyota dealership that sold it to them offered them $11K for it. So generous.

Anyway, here are some potato quality pics of this little 1st gen unicorn:

but anyway what is the point of buying a car to leave it in the garage and never drive it?

They told me they bought it to replace another car that didn't end up needing replacement so it just sat. Since it sat they didn't bother keeping the registration / safety inspections up so it made it harder to rationalize moving.

Seems like an really weird way to deal with a $23K truck. On the bright side someone will likely get a sweet ride out of this.

yes, indeed, this is a strange way of dealing with things.
I hope the frame will be cared for. Would be really sad to see it turns to swiss cheese

    Pretty much stock right now
I guess it's true. Your vehicle looses half it's value just driving it off the lot.

it never saw enough of the road to even get wet!

Since it sat in a garage I can almost bet they never opened the door long enough to let that much moisture in. Still tho, there have been gems rusted out just sitting, so :fingerscrossed:

It's really too bad about the Prerunner part. That's like finding your new girlfriend that dropped out of nun college needs bolt ons

Cool find, though the idea of someone being able to afford just sitting on a brand new truck just weirds me out a bit, like when something like an 89 F-150 that someone took the care to spec out with all the right options shows up on Barn Finds with 20 miles on the clock. Like... what happened? I mean, at this point, why not just hold off and mothball it for another few years until these are actually rare and you can milk that “new classic” tagline.

That said I hope someone actually gets it for a fair price and enjoys it.
