But they still made them leak. If that were an issue then they should have stated that new lines were a stipulation of getting a new frame for free. OR they should have come out and said that, "hey we were installing the frame and had an issue with your lines. If you buy new ones we will install them for free", or something like that.

Rust. Rust made them leak. Good lines wouldn't leak

But they weren't leaking prior to them swapping them out.

How much time and effort to do this work yourself or to pay someone? Then weigh that against the effort/time (and cost of your time) to fight Toyota to get it done. Whichever is the cheaper route do that. I don't think your experience at one Toyota dealership is going to have any effect on the ability for other people to get Toyota to honor the frame replacement program. They have their own liability/legal reasons for doing this, it has nothing to do with how nice the next guy is.

They're 13 year old liquid lines, not bolts. They'd likely have leaked if anybody removed them. So, should the dealer charge that fee to the customer up front and say "replace these for $X," or try and get them to reinstall successfully without issues (with 13 years of wear) and then leave it to chance? I don't think it's the dealer who should be paying for the replacement, if Toyota doesn't cover that in the frame replacement work order.

Sure, they were fine before.. but for all the above reasons, it shouldn't be a surprise to have small issues and leaks when removing and reinstalling things that are old and should be replaced to begin with.

They need to have the customer pay for it up front or at least let the customer know that it may be a charge that comes with swapping the frame. Not just after the fact shrugging their shoulders and acting like they didn't know it could have been an issue.

You must have missed the threads where people are here complaining that they're given a bill before the frame replacement starts for replacement parts like these?

They're damned if they do, and damned if they don't.

It sucks to be in either persons shoes, but come on.. reality is that some old parts don't reinstall that well, this shouldn't be a surprise to either the dealer or the owner, and even if 6 months later this issue started, most owners would blame the dealer anyway, despite 150k+ miles on that component.

I agree with what you are saying but it should be less of a surprise for these dealers because as you said so yourself, the lines would have likely leaked anyway. From a liability standpoint, they should state these issues from the start and give the owner the option to switch them out.

The dealer knows beforehand, likely the surprise lies with the owners and therefore it's a hail mary attempt to put old shit on a new frame and hope there's no issues.

I guess the big problem here is communication between dealer and OP. Either way, sounds like he'll be buying replacement lines (and rightly so, IMO), maybe if he doesn't piss in the cereal bowl of the dealer they can find a mutual agreement where the parts are purchased through them and he gets a free or discounted installation.

Thanks for the Support. I just wrote it up and emailed a copy to the Service Manager at the local Dealership, I'll see if he responds.

Thanks, I think paying for new hoses/lines may be what I have to do. Of course I'll be stuck with extremely overpriced Toyota parts. I can't even find them online. Replacements anywhere single line $70-$150. Right now I have to put fluid in it every time I drive it and this is just short errands, I'm not commuting (out of work, which doesn't help matters)
