I have to fiddle with the key to silence the buzzer after key withdrawal and the door open. Fortunately it still silence when door is shut. With door open and no key in ignition and buzzer sounding off, if I press on ignition key slot with my finger, I can usually silence buzzer. Also opening glove box has triggered it. I'm thinking bad connections. Not sure where to look. Any info is appreciated.

You probably have a failed unlock warning switch in the lock cylinder or something hanging up in the lock cylinder, if you just want to disable the chime you can unplug the unlock warning switch.

After fooling around with things, I eventually thought to myself "this is a Toyota product and should last forever". You could tell the issue was in the very front part of the key slot. I could silence alarm by merely pressing it with my finger. I then felt (hoped?) that it had to be dirt or debris affecting the movement of the moving part. I flushed with a few small doses of contact cleaner and lubricant (didn't know if any plastic parts were inside and wanted to be very careful). Knock on wood it has stopped chiming and on a consistence basis no less. I'll reclean/relubricate on a periodic basis. I would miss this alarm the first time I lock the doors with key in ignition and seeing spare key on car seat.(lol)
I wish all problems were this easy to solve.
And thanks for all the great info.
