    hey everyone
so I have a 2003 Tacoma TRD Off Road (at least according to the stickers on the bed) it's a rwd and the v6 3.4L engine. I was told that that model of the TRD comes with a rear diff locker BUT instead of the RR button mine has a button that turns on the ECT (electronically controlled transmission) which is disappointing. so I was wondering do i just not have a button for the locker and it automatically turns on or maybe it turns on when I put the gears in 2 or L? how can I find out if i have a locker besides looking if there is a button? Thank you all!

Only spot for the E-Diff Lock is to the left of the steering wheel.

The ECT button should be in the spot to the left of the orange button.

Its possible you have a Limited Slip possibly but if theres not magic ornage button its a no go on your TRD baja dreams.

Yep- no orange button- not a TRD.

My friend has an '04 PreRunner, and his doesn't have the rear diff locker button either. Also, my '03 PreRunner has the green fan clutch and his is orange. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but the green fan clutch is considered HD or for towing.

also look for the locker actuator motor on the rear axle housing. that's a definite given or not, button could have been removed but without the actual locker you got a base model with fancy stickers :(

is his '04 a V6? If it is, it's not a TRD, just a PreRunner. The I4 auto didn't have the locker, but it had the suspension.

not 100% sure about the fan clutch but I think they changed colors. one may have also been for colder/warmer climates

Yes, his '04 is a V6 and you are correct....It's just a PreRunner. I called him and he said his doesn't have the TRD decals on the side.

There were 1st gens with the TRD package and no rear locker...mostly 4 bangers. Not common but they're out there.

In this case I'm betting that a previous owner just slapped some TRD stickers on a non-TRD truck
