Today I was shining my tires on my taco and I haven't paid much attention to my truck in the past 3 days from the time I last washed it. When I washed it I used carx car wash soap with race driven's spray wax, I noticed no problems of my paint while washing the car. Today I discovered that my paint is chipping straight off the metal. Something under the paint is making all my coats come off in a bubble pattern and some parts seemed to be burnt or as if they got to hot. If antone has knowledge of an already existing problems with these paint codes let me know because I need to know what's wrong with these paint coats.

Yikes. What part of the truck is this on? Has that part of the truck been long exposed to the sun?

Looks like your tires flung something onto the paint that is eating through it to me, but your pics only show so much.

Either way, you'll need a paint job.

It's on my passenger door and the step side of my passenger side. And even in the bottom corner you can tell there's a fish eye effect in the paint that's always been there so do you suppose this was a mistake made during the painting process ?

Have there been any previous owners of the truck? Cause yeah you can see the bottom portion of the paint starts to look grainy - perhaps it was repainted at some point?

Don't even consider that Toyota is going to do anything for you on 13 year old paint.

This is 100% your issue to pay for unless you paid for this paint recently.

My bet is that's not orange peel but is bubbled paint.

A garden hose would probably blow the paint off in that spot like it is in the other sections.

My grandpa was the previous and first owner of the truck and never had it repainted, the entire truck is stock and the paint is untouched. I know toyota wouldn't even consider the paying of the painting for my truck but I curious to if the paints chipping is a problem regarding the manufacturer or an environmental problem.

Either you drove over something that spilled on your car or somebody was mad at you and threw some thing in there...like lacquer thinner.

I actually have a little bit going on at the very bottom of my rocker panel so it could be either. Since I hand wash my truck you can feel that it's rougher than the rest of the paint but not at a point where it flakes off.
I think this just got to a point where a piece chipped and now a domino effect.

I park my 01 out side 365 days/year for 15+ years even temp hit 115 degrees in Fresno,CA nothing come close to what I seen here, some one must have throw some brake fluids or acid tones on your truck, could have been your ex j/k.

Yeah but even then one of the big issues with the 1st gen and even some early 2nd gens was the roof paint baking off. There are several threads on that. I think every case will be different.

I lost track thousands of dollars ago.
You most of ran something over and never noticed it brake fluid will do this to paint in no time.

The lower section is a chip guard it's pretty much on every vehicle on the road. Go take a look at yours you will seen the same orange peel effect on your lower rockers.

I had a feeling that was normal on an off road truck. Haha
