I hope it works out roast. (damn I hate spell check) rosst. The Big Toyota dealer here wanted $2400 to do the same deal. I was going to suggest a product called "Red Kote" which I use on my motorcycle tanks to line them when they get rusted, but I'm not totally sure of how it would stand up in larger tank with ethanol in the gas (although it was initially designed for auto/truck tanks. I am interested in seeing the video. Thanks for your updates.

I'm about half a tank into my test and no issues to date. After talking to the local Toyota Parts guys, they said they just clean up the tanks and re-seal them for customers, using new gaskets and a Toyota approved gasket sealer. I wish I had gone this route and would have saved $500. Hind site now..
My tank was actually in good shape, just the gasket surface areas showing rust.

I'm surprised to hear that, maybe because it happens more often now they have found a fix. My dealer wanted to put in all new parts. My local mechanic didn't want to put in new gaskets because he said they were not available. My tank looked surprisingly clean. There is another dealer that is close by, perhaps I'll ask them if they have cleaned up the old tanks.

    Thanks for your efforts rosst.

I had to order the gaskets separate. Were not included with the oem tank.
If I were to do this job again, I would have sealed the holes in my old tank with masking tape and sand, polish the gasket seating area, used a sealant with a new gasket. But.. without being able to see the top of the tank while in place, I planned for the worst and ordered a new tank out of Ohio. Not feasible to return the tank, so I used it.
I also bought all new screws which I didn't need. I used some anti-seize on the threads of the old screws. BTW, Toyota gets a couple of bucks per screw.

I’m real late to this post but I have recently gotten the po456 code as well. I noticed a couple people was saying they had crappy throttle response. Mine will drop 200-500 rpms while driving or taking off from a stop and not go. Pushing the gas harder doesn’t help but if you let off the gas and then go back into it goes back to normal. Is this what y’alls are doing?

Mine wasn't like that. Truck ran fine, just the smell of gas. It was fixed after the 2nd charcoal canister was replaced, but my guess is was more like a leaky connection. After almost 2 years the engine light is back on, haven't even checked to see what is, but I'm sure it will be the same code (lol). Now that the truck is over 15 years old it can pass inspection so I'll just ignore it. Just had to have a new oil pan installed.

But I would think that it might effect performance too. Good luck.
