Can someone confirm which coil is coil A ??

Is it the one at the front of the engine??

Below is the issue that I have been having.

2004 2x4 Tacoma with a 2.4L. Truck runs like a top and then occasionally will just die all of a sudden.

Not a sputtering kind of thing..just shut off.

Of course it happened to my daughter, then I would drive it and it would be fine for a few days. It would happen to her on sunny/dry days..and some wet days. I don't think that is the issue.

code is always the same. Code clears.

Today...it happened again. But wouldn't start back and run. After sitting 20 minutes..it started and ran 4-5 miles..about about 4 to 5 minutes...then died. Had to wait another similar time frame to run it same distance.

It would restart after dying but would only run for just a sec..kinda "flutter" and then die. Trying to give it gas would not keep it running.

To me it seemed that the cooler the engine got..the longer it would stay running.

Engine did NOT overheat. just at normal temp. for the times today that it ran for 4-5 minutes. It was completely cold. Showed no temp at all.

So...when it runs..it runs like top...then just dies. once it starts again and keeps the engine on...runs great..till it dies again.

Any guidance on how to troubleshoot this would be appreciated.

    So..my plan...unless someone has a better one.

Is to swap the frontmost coil with another one "further back"

if the code changes...to 52..that would mean that the coil itself is bad.

If the code stays on the front cylinder.

Then that would mean wiring or something else other than the coil at cylinder "A"..which I am assuming is cylinder 1.

    thoughts??
