    Hello and greetings all;
    I am in search of the torque spec for the spindle nut (Diagram says See page SA-19) on an 04 Tacoma 2wd 4cyl. I have searched high and low looking for the specifics but keep coming up empty handed. I have found 147 ft.lbs and another that says 163 ft.lbs but I am unsure of those numbers as they do not specify the year. Also do I need to go back and re-check the torque after use? I appreciate any and all info with this current dilemma I am facing.
    Jim

    There is no torque spec on a tapered roller bearing like that, it's tightened by the preload method shown below.

    If it was me I would just snug it up good and put the pin in, you want it to rotate freely but have no play.

    if you are asking about the nut between the "Claw washer" and the "Lock Cap" in the diagram, there is no torque spec on that. That is the nut that adjusts the free play in the bearing/hub assembly. It is pretty simple, while spinning the "Disc" with your left hand use a pair of pliers tighten the nut until you feel the bearings just starting to get tight, back it off a little then do it again, then back off a small amount. Put the "Lock Cap" on and align the hole in the spindle with the openings in the "Lock Cap" and put a new cotter pin in. Put the wheel/tire back on and grab the assembly at 12 and 6 o clock and rock it back and forth, there should be very little free play.

    Hi Jim
    Welcome to TacomaWorld
    Do you have a 5 lug base model?

    In that case the torque specs of 100+ft.lbs. doesn't apply.
    @Dm93 and @Glamisman are giving good advice.

    I have a 5 lug and it's definitely NOT anything close to 100 ft lbs. I've never torqued it. It's always just by feel.

    This is how I do it every time I've put the rotor/hub assembly back on. Once tightened, I spin the rotor without a lot of effort/force. It doesn't spin very fast and it usually makes a couple revolutions before stopping.
