I posted on here a few month ago that I had an intermittent electrical issue that caused a crank no start condition. It went away for a bit but recently came back and I chased the issue to the trucks ECM, after removing it I found the unsealed box was somehow getting water inside and the board is corroded. Does anyone have any experience with refurbishing services, my local scrapyard has none and the closest yard wants 250, seems to me like a used one might have the same issue as mine.

I've had 3 1st gens. Non experienced water intrusion to the ECM. I'm inclined to think it is more rare to have your trouble.

Have the yard send you pictures of the ECM. You would be able tell right away if it had water damage.

I just read another post on this forum where someone had the same issue, we're just lucky I guess, you would think Toyota would just put a bit of sealant around the casing?

You can probably send it off to someone to refurb but try to find one used

I can tell you from personal experience do not use Car Computer Exchange. My recent experience was nothing but a waste of time. Had to get my attorney involved for them to return my PCM. Others might have a different experience with them...
