Hello,my name is Johnny.Ive read a ton of really good info here, and I decided to join because I have a ?,and I am a super rookie mechanic, but I'm liking it more and more.I bought my Tacoma with 255.000 miles on it.The tranny went out at 284.000.I had it rebuilt, and it's been good. Then, last week, out of the blue, it started to lose power. The engine is strong and sounds good. Its running good, but there is a delay,or hiccup in the acceleration.I want to say transmission slip. All the symptoms I've read about are there.Higher rpms.Delay in acceleration when giving it fuel, etc.I took it to the rebuild shop and asked them to honor the warranty,24.000.miles or two year, and they told me 2 misfires and possible vacuum leaks.after running diagnosis. They also said the mechanics are afraid to drive my truck for a road test because I have no brakes.I laughed and said,I just drove down here and ran all the red lights and coasted to a stop here at the shop. The brakes were getting weak.I put in a new booster.New timing belt.New water pump.New pulleys.New dual electrode NGKs.New plug wires.Coils are cool,I hope and Im assuming because the engine sounds great.I would hear a misfire or two ,no? A different mechanic says it sounds killer while pulling on the throttle cable and revving the engine up pretty damn high.I have no vacuum leaks.Ive been driving it and after doing the aforementioned tune up I noticed nothing except super high idle that mellowed out after a few start ups.If I am really modest on giving it fuel I dont notice the lag in acceleration compared to engine rev.It only happens when I am merging on to the freeway, climbing a grade or just wanting to get moving.I feel like my truck use to sit at 2000.rpms when I was driving 65 or 70/75 on flat terrain. Now it's up to 3100 rpms at those speeds and working harder to stay there.Anyway,I'm a total rookie and doing the timing belt/water pump took me probably 10 hours and watching Timmy the Toolmans videos about 6 times.I realize there are sensors all over and I have no CEL.
