    Bilstein 5100 3-inch lift
    Hi guys!

I'm new to tacoma world but have found a lot of very useful help on this website so thank you to everyone who contributes.

Over the past couple of weeks a friend and I have been working on installing a Bilstein 5100 2.5 inch lift kit for my 2004 Tacoma TRD. The rear has an "add a leaf" addition. The job has been overall okay except for finding a competent shop to compress the coil springs for me and keeping it lined up straight :). We just finished this install last night with the addition of the 1 inch differential drop kit.

I woke up early this morning to take it for a spin and have been very disappointed with the results and want to find out what the problem is. The front end is bouncing a lot. Every time I go over a small bump the front end will bounce and continue to do so for about 50 feet. If I go over a speed bump I can feel the front suspension rapidly bouncing as if it is overextending and compressing rapidly. I know I need to get it realigned but I'm not aware of an alignment issue causing the bouncing. It also seems that the axles and CVs are at a steep angle (even with the diff drop kit).

From my research it seems the stock TRD tacoma can take a 2.5 inch lift without any major changes to the upper and lower control arms but I'm beginning to wonder if this lift is too high. I have posted some pics and would really appreciate some help as this has turned into a nightmare!

    A few bolts are different.
I bet the shop who compressed the spring onto the struts did not put the top-hats together correctly.

Can you shoot a pic of that assembly for us?

    Also, are those Eibach springs?

If yes, the springs alone give some lift I believe. Looks like the struts are on the 2.5" lift setting plus there is the extended height of the Eibach springs. So yeah, it could be over extended..

Yep, like dark knight said, if those are eibach springs they will provide the lift. The bilstein shocks should be set at 0" lift (the lowest c-clip setting)

    These guys are right.

Only use those Eibach coils on the lowest setting with the 5100s.

You're going to need to get those disassembled, lower the clip, and then reassemble.

    Thanks for the reply.

I don't have pics of the compression process :(

I think you are right and what happened is the strut is set too high :(. Will take them off and adjust it again. Thanks!

Those spring will give u 3 inches of lift, also that lower sring perch needs to be set at the lowest setting. Take it back n have them reassemble it. Now if u want 2.5 lift use ur stock spring at that current setting
