Lol no doubt!! Haha! They're prolly working on it id assume, haha...seems like metal is only used where it absolutely has to be used. Making products to last and be stout is a thing of the past. Shit nearly everything in todays consumer economy is meant to be thrown away even, it seems atleast! Nothing is bought with the mindset to be handed down to be used for multiple generations and be fixed when broke like things used to be. Hell, even new cars are to be used up and thrown away anymore! You dont really fix products now, you just buy new and toss the old. Its really quite sad i feel....plus its extremely wasteful even though we live within this movement where everything is to be recycled to save the planet. But i feel that making cheap shit dosent help that cause at all!!

I'm up in the Canadian prairies. The salt is only a concern at the beginning and ending of winter up here. With the normal daytime high here in winter being around -13C (8F) and routine lows in the -25C (-13F) range, salt doesn't work. My taco is a weekend vehicle so I just park it when there are wet/salty roads. I realize this is not an option for most but it's what I do to prolong the life of it. The PO didn't get the Toyota inspection/undercoat before the deadline so I am SOL. It's lasted 12+ years in my city and the frame is still in 'decent' shape given those conditions.

That said, I still place the blame on Toyota. They fucked up the procurement and quality of these frames--and continued to do so for years after learning about the issue. No other vehicle I have had has had such an issue with road salt.

Ya know what really miffs me about the shitty frames is after the initial problems with major rustage one would expect the new replaced frames to be damn near bullet proof! I honestly don't think that they're any better!! I've seen a couple different trucks (pictures) that had 2 year old swapped frames and the rust was absolutely atrocious already!!! One was even posted in here a while back and the owner was not real happy with the rust coating everything so soon. Both trucks were bad enough you'd have expected the frames were the originals!! Of course they were from heavy salt use areas but still, they should be much less susceptible to corrosion due to the rust problem to begin with!

Snapped this pic yesterday of my frame at the dealership. 12 years of MI and MN road salt, it was "treated" in 2009. Hopefully the new one doesn't turn to dust.20170122_124245.jpg

I would certainly do a fluid film treatment or the like asap and keep on it to mitigate the corrosion!

Ha that's the plan! I've got 4 cans right now and am headed to the dealer. I want to treat it before it even leaves the bay.

Hopefully I can sweet talk the tech to spray it for me. Then this spring I'll get the wand kit and do the boxed portions.

That's a mess. I'd be doing the same thing with the new one.

I know it really looks awful. What's crazy is it didn't look that bad when I was under it prior to the swap.
The gas tank was hiding most of the disaster. I did bring in 5 cans of fluid film and the dealer is going to spray it down.
I'm really hoping the replacement frame is going to hold up in the long run.

When does the frame replacement recall end?

For a tacoma in a cold weather state, which has been undercoated by toyota before the deadline (12/31/2011), the extended warranty is for 15 years from the date it went into service (sold to first owner).

Also, it's NOT a recall. This is a service campaign done voluntarily by toyota.

Suggest you take it one step further on your new frame. Paint the welds with rustbullet or similiar then use the interenal frame coating from eastwood on all internal surfaces. Then fluid film .....

Went to pick up my truck today. Everything looked and felt good until I realized my box was crooked and my brake pedal was low.

I debated on bringing it back or just adjusting the box and bleeding the brakes myself.

I decided they can deal with it! Should be done tomorrow...

Hopefully nothing else comes up. I've been a wee bit apprehensive about the whole thing. It's kind of a big deal re framing a vehicle!
