The local dealer replaced the timing belt and water pump on my brother's 2004 Tundra for a little over $600 last year.

Why do you need to go to the dealer for this service?

An independent shop can get the same parts and charge much less. The work is not something that can only be done at a dealer.

$1500 sounds steep. Maybe ask another dealer or ask if your dealer can do better on the price. If you have a history with that dealer, they may work with you to keep your business. Doesn't cost anything to ask.

Definitely go to a reputable independant shop, you'll pay half that or less I'm sure. Dealerships way overcharge and are really only there for warranty work IMO
