My 2004 double cab 4x4 Tacoma has a strange, slight, bump/rear drop when I come to a complete stop. I got this truck about 6 weeks ago and it is my daily driver. My previous cars have been 2WD, manual, so I am new to 4WD, automatic trucks. I couldn’t find the Tacoma I wanted in manual.

When I come to a complete stop, it feels like my rear end drops a little, the gear shifter lurches forward a bit and there is a bump feeling. This is slight. It is not noticeable unless you are thinking about it. It does not happen if I am stopping from travel in reverse.

    What do you think?

    Normal in this truck.

    Needs a transmission tune-up.

    Differential issue.

    Sounds like axle wrap.

I have the same truck. Mine was a combination of axle wrap and a loose spare tire. Check you spare tire firstbefore axle wrap .

I had that for a couple of years and thought it was something in the transmission. Upgraded to Deaver Expo springs last fall and the bump went away so it was pretty clearly axle wrap.

The driveline mounts or motor mounts could be loose. My '98 had a lot of play in them.
