Currently working on a Prinsu/upTOP DIY roof rack design, scroll down to read about it

Hi guys, my name is Alex and I am building up a Tacoma, and trying to keep each thing I do cost friendly.

for example, I won’t have shops do any of the work on my truck unless needed, and whoever possible I will build/fabricate all my own stuff.

    Build as it stands currently

    183470A9-3F7D-4931-94C2-2122D01868EE.jpg

    Suspension:
    OME HD Coilovers
    OME Rear Leafs

    Armor:
Coastal Offroad Closed Top DIY Front Bumper
    4xInnovations Skid Plates
    4xInnovations DIY Sliders

    Wheels/Tires:
    33” BFG KM3’s
16x8, 0 offset Raceline Scout Wheels

    Misc:
Bed Rack is just some angle iron with steel square tube to get some extra height and accessibility into the bed, with steel circular tubing as crossbars. This works well, but I’d like to get more height

    Ironman4x4 9500lb Synthetic Winch

    Want:
In process of making my own simple rear bumper with tire swing out, jack mount, fold down table

    SPC Upper Control Arms

In process of designing upTOP Overland type roof rack

In process of designing CBI Offroad inspired 3rd gen Bed rack

It is the Tepui Ayer. If I had to do it again, I’d either go for a ground tent, or a RTT that is a littler longer, and taller.

it’s a bit cramped if you want to go in, take off your shirt/coat or pants before bed. Although it does sleep my fiance and I comfortably. So I can’t really complain

Just ordered Tnutz Prinsu crossbars. Currently designing side plates inspired by upTOP overland Alpha Colorado Rack.

Once I finish with the cad file and get the side plates ordered, I will update my post with that stuff.

Thinking about making a YouTube video on how I designed and measured everything. I haven’t been able to find much, if anything, about DIY Prinsu type racks for first gens

I am interested in the DIY Prinsu style rack as $700 is a bit much as I haven't found where they have hidden the tabs of 24k gold in them...

I will keep this post updated, and any design files I make will be public. I ordered the 44” extruded aluminum already, 8 bars, 2”x1” just like Prinsu and upTOP overland.

I am assuming the cost to come out to around $250 to $300. Depending on how much the aluminum cutting costs.

    Awesome!

I currently have an Xterra rack on top from the prior owner - zero functionality...

This is what I am thinking for the rack. I just sent it in for a quote. Hopefully they don't take too long to get back to me.emachineshop_YYD0c1yAKY.jpg

Got the side plates for my roof rack that I am making.
They turned out great, ordered from eMachineShop. Two things I should have done different were make them a little more thick, and the bolt holes a touch bigger, thought I had the right size, but guess not.

I want to make sure it all works before uploading the design files. But if you want them now you can PM me.

How much did it cost to get those roof rack side plates cut and delivered?

Was only $160 for side plates and they are 55”x3.5” at the widest part

Finally got to test the ftment after a week of chemo. It looks great.
    Next steps are
    •Place rest of crossbars in
•Make spacers for the crossbars that will act as mounts
•Find a shop that will help me bend a plate as a front shroud, to close the viewing angle into the front
•Paint it black and mount it up

Thank you, had a bunch of stuff come up, hopefully will finish it in the next week, then make a video or write up on how to do it on your own. Roofrack companies charge way to much compared to how much I have invested in this. Just have to figure out a good mounting system.

Do you have any close-up details of the 4x sliders with the plates you added?

I can take some pictures for you. Are you talking about the plates in between the rails that have the “TRD” logo on them or the plates that are used to weld to the truck?

the fill plates that act as a step.
I am mainly curious how well these act as steps with how much angle to the body and how far they stick out from body.

It’s up to you. The tube they give that connects to the frame needs to be cut and it’s fairly long, you could make it stick out a bit further than this if wanted.

Thanks! I’m between these and the all pros and I like the look of the fill plates a little better on these.
Did you cut the plates up from the full design that they advertise?
