I have searched but cannot find exactly what I am looking for.

Looking at a 2004 Tacoma sr5 I believe, 2.7L 5 speed, 4x4, it has the late 90's style 15" aluminum wheels with what looks like 31x10.5 Michelin ltx m/s. Everything is stock (no lift) I drive about 120 mile round trip to work, need a truck for work, this seems like the most fuel efficient option for a Tacoma. I travel 50-55 mph on my way to work (secondary highway).

This is where I want to be clear, at these speeds 50-55 mph(optimal for mpg) what will this Tacoma generally yield? I have read anything from 20-30, so I'm guessing somewhere in the middle? 25-26 I would be very happy.

Any input would help. Don't care about city mpg or 75 mph mpg's as I don't drive like this.
    Thanks

I personally would consider you to be lucky at 20mpg...maybe a lil more if youre puttin around...

    Well i have a 2015 2.7 ,5spd, 4x4. I run 80 mi daily for work. On stock245 75/16 i avg about 22.5 mpgs, that is 2wd, no air, at 62mph. Hope that helps.

These trucks seem to vary a lot on mpg's.

If the frame checks out I am going to pull the trigger.

Lucky to get 20 mpg travelling 55 mph? Jesus the 4.0l gets better than that.

Fuelly shows lows 20's for the 2.7L Tacoma and that's overall average, not prime speeds for mpg.

I know the 3.4L in the 1st gen will get 22-23 travelling my route to work (55 mph)

With my 90 mile round-trip commute (iabout 2/3 highway and 1/3 in town stop-n-go), I average 21mpg. Same truck as what you're looking at- '04, 5 spd, 2.7l, stock. I'd expect you would have the same- low 20s.

This week I got 18 mpg speeding on the freeway and doing lots of city driving.

My '96 2.7 gets 20mpg in those conditions, and it has a tall cap and welded steel side/roof racks on it and 31 inch tires. I'll bet I would get 22-23 without those add-ons.

I have had the injectors cleaned, clean the MAF, keep the plugs/wires current, change the air and fuel filters regularly, use only synthetic oil, etc.

    Solids pretty decent.

If I get close to mid 20's I'd be really happy.

I will switch all driveline fluids to synthetic, does a cai help noticeably with mpg, or waste of money?

Truck has 103,000 miles, really hard to find one with such low miles around here.

A cold air intake should reduce MPG but increase power. Cold air is more dense. If your computer reads more o2 due to denser air, it will inject more fuel to keep the optimal air/fuel mixture.

Cai on some vehicles marginally increases mpg. My 2012 ram I guess it does. The theory I've been told is colder dense air burns fuel more efficiently thus using less fuel. I just couldn't stand the intake noise and the gains were marginal.

This Tacoma is 6 hours from me but my brother in law is in the area and a mechanic, so he is going to look it over before I make the long trek up. Hope it's in good shape, pictures look good, just worried about frame.

Well the frame had some rust scale on it but was solid.
Just sent a deposit on it. Will be making the 12 hour round trip next Thursday/Friday. Glad to finally join the taco family. Will see what I get for MPG, here's hoping its in the mid 20's (US)...we'll see
