But those go greatly up in cost. I would assume he's looking at this due to budget, not everyone can afford a newer truck like that or may not want to finance. I for one paid cash for mine and yeah I could of used the cash I paid as a nice down payment I don't want/refuse to have a car payment ever again so I have a strict budget I work with on purchasing a vehicle.

yes cost is a big factor since this will be my first car. im tryying to find one <$15k and i really want a v6 manual. the doublecab manuals are rare and costly (at least the ones ive found have been) so ive had my eye on some access cab v6 6-speeds around but some dealers with good looking trucks have some pretty bad reviews.

cheap yourself on the front end, and you will likely have heavy reoccuring costs on the backend. You get what you pay for. OP if it was an 07 id say go for it.... but 05-06.... i wouldnt want to deal with likely a headgasket issue.

Must be access cab short bed with a 4 cylinder. Zero chance you paid 13.5 for a DC 4X4 V6 at that price.

I paid $15,000 a few weeks ago for an '09 V6 Prerunner DCSB with 130K miles...don't know if I got screwed or not. It is in outstanding condition for an '09 tho.

I spent 11k on my 05 ext cab 4x4 sr5 4.0 manual with 128k on the odometer. It needs a little work, but nothing major, just a little freshening up. I think the price is a little steep

4cyl reg cab. More than I wanted to spend, but it’s a perfect little truck. One owner, no accidents, no rust, all stock when I got it. Regularly taken to dealership for maintenance.

thats pretty much what i want but i guess a 2007 would be best according to everyones concern about head gaskets

also i enjoy working on my own stuff and ive worked on motorcycles for a few years flipping them so not looking for a truck needing major work but ill work on lighter stuff until i get more comfortable.

i know this is a tacoma site but anyone have experience with colorados? not sure if im about to be shunned or something but wondering what you guys think of this. looks super clean and much cheaper than a tacoma considering the low miles.

Mine sees revlimiter from time to time, mostly when I'm out wheeling, not daily. My motor runs like a top.

I drove a Colorado 4x4 for work and it was pretty nice... smaller than my tacoma on the inside, but about the same size on the outside. It was a work rig so it was abused, but ran well. It was a really thirsty engine tho. And I thought Tacoma’s got bad gas milage.
I’d take my tacoma over it every day of the week.

I've put almost 50k miles on it in a yr. This is offroading, hauling trailers, loading it with camping gear and scouts, driving all over, loading it with construction materials, driving it on the beach loaded with coolers of ice banging around and fishing gear, during the nice months I am finding off the beaten trails to haul my kayak to dump into the water. So if that qualifies as driving hard then yes, to me that is just using the truck for what I wanted it for.

I have had to replace the front hub bearings common issue on all 2nd gens, and I am very attentive about maint. I just haven't experienced any of the dreaded head gasket issues that everyone talks about. When I was a mechanic I saw a ton of the 1st gens with the 3.4s in the shop with head gasket issues.

I hate them as a mechanic they had/have timing chain issues. Get crap gas mileage, build quality as far as fit and finish and longevity for anything is much shorter than a tacoma. Interior bits crack and fade don't hold their value nearly as good as a tacoma and there is a reason for that.

I run mine pretty damn hard. I drive 80 miles down i10 round trip with really short on ramps going about 80. Plus a good bit of off-roading and haven't seen any signs of cooling/head gasket problems. They are great to work on, everything is pretty easy to get to, and I'm not even close to being a mechanic.
I've done my fair share of wrenching, mostly out of necessity but so far I haven't run into anything I couldn't tackle with a decent set of tools
