The 3.4 were more of an issue I never saw a 2nd gen in the shop with head gasket issues only the 3.4

Going to sell my soon if you’re really looking. 09 trd off road dc silver.168k. 2nd owner. Probably looking at 15k or so. Haven’t really researched current market. Regular maintenance done every 5k by original owner. I’ve had it over 2years now. Mostly do my own now or at Toyota if time or skills limit it. Rear springs done last year. Hoping to get frame done soon. Frame is decent but I did find one small whole that should qualify me. Everything else looks decent. Just by chance I found it. 2015 entune radio. Weather techs, soft trifold bed cover, bed extender, 265/75r16 cooper at3s. Trd skid plate. Throwing on new shocks with frame when done. Shoot me a pm if possibly interested.

So for that year and 06 the timing chain cover is a common thing to leak. Water pump very likely to be leaking so check for build up. Probably fluids are in a need of maintenance so check them all and see the condition and will tell you somewhat how the trucks been treated... check for cracks in the belt and tie rods and what not. Also rear end had a recall too for that year see if it’s been done

Banks also can get fussy with higher mileage vehicles so they are less appealing to high volume dealers. A lot of people overlook that you have to plunk down a big wad of cash to get a bank to touch a truck with over 120k so they don’t move as easy.

That was exactly my point. I was a tech at a dealer where we sent anything with over 60k or older than 5 yrs old away to auction.

Very good points and a good mechanic you trust can check all these things and go over the vehicle thoroughly.

It’s all good don’t have to answer questions like theirs dude, good that your asking the right question at your age. Most grown men and women don’t know what to look for or even care to ask they just want the vehicle right then and now.

yeah i dont want to get something id regret. i love manuals but i also love the space of a truck so the tacoma would be a good truck if i could find one. there are colorados around me too, but i want something sportier. im torn between something like a gti or something like a tacoma or colorado. im sure you guys will all say that a tacoma would be way better since its more versatile but a vw gti would be more fun on pavement. im all over the place!!

Having had probably 50+ vehicles and at one point in time 5 on the road if you like something go for it I will say the tacoma will have a better resale if you find you don't like it. Write a sheet out on the pros and cons of each and decide from that. Don't make a knee jerk decision you'll probably regret it. This is smart by being methodical about your choice.

I've had everything from a tow pig to a car that would pull 10 sec quarter mile times and everything in between if your really into cars you'll find yourself constantly evolving in your taste and preferences and needs.

It's my understanding that the 5cyl engine and the trans in the older colorados are terrible!! I have personally only been around one in my life (my step-dads) and it gave him hell constantly!! It only had 140k on it and had the trans go out twice on him. I don't wanna be the guy to scare you out of something you like, but in my experience I wouldn't buy one. The 2018 Colorados are pretty damn sexy though!!

Yeah it was the 5.3 truck engine but it's ready for whatever you want to through at it. They made them in the Xtreme package and I believe an upscale one as well. I have never heard of a 4x4 one

All of them were head issues timing chain issues and some other crap we constantly had them in fixing crap both at the dealership and independent shops. 5 cycl were worse though. If you think tacoma hub bearing assemblies are bad all the GM products are worse cars to trucks.
