I am trying to eliminate some simple fixes before paying 80$/hr for trouble shooting. I am having some noise when accelerating under a load between 1600-2300ish rpm in higher gears (3-5). Changed my manual trans oil 3 months ago. My truck seemed to always have this noise, only it's gotten worse. I'm starting with the pulleys up front, then I'm going to the carrier bearing and u joints. These things are all probably due for replacement anyway at 180k mi. There is no significant power loss, decline in MPGs, engine codes, smoke. I just changed the valve cover gasket and seem to have fixed the oil consumption issue. The inner gasket for the plugs was hard, brittle and came out in pieces... I had noticed oil on 2 of the plugs and ignition modules when I changed the plugs this summer. oil consumption had increased and when I pulled it off there was oil on three of the modules now...

I had the upper idler pulley changed while on a road trip this summer, and I was suprised at how much of a difference in noise it made. I want to change the lower and tensioner pulley. I'll check the other pulleys when I change those.

Rock Auto does not have the tensioner pulley alone and apparently it is an illusive/non-existent part. The one that pops up on autozone's site does not fit my Taco.

Has anyone changed just the pulley on the tensioner or just the bearings in the pulley on a 2tr-fe 4 cyl taco?

Yes, I have changed the bearing in the tensioner and the idler pulley. I took both of them off, and then took the bearings out of both, and went to to a parts store (Federated Auto Parts, in this case), and matched the numbers on the old bearings to some new ones.

The tensioner pulley accepted a National brand 203-FF, an NSK 6203DUL1 is what came out. Also the Tensioner pulley on my truck was regular threads, NOT the reverse threads that someone else had mentioned in another post. Oriely's had the 203-FF, but not a replacement for the two 6303DU2 bearings in the idler pulley. I ordered some off brand ones on Amazon that are sealed on both sides and the right dimensions. We shall see...

Neither the U joints, carrier bearing or the idler pulley fixed my noise during acceleration from 1600-2200 rpm under a load, so motor and tranny mounts have been ordered. There is a slight twist in the engine on acceleration.

I'm curious if you were able to find any resolve to your situation. If you have replaced the engine and transmission mounts already, did that remedy your noise?
