Im looking to buy a used taco for the first time. I LOVE the 2nd gen DCSB.

My dad taught me to never buy/try the first of anything...being that 2005 is the first of the new gen... is it a smarter buy to go with a 2006?

I would like a TRD but im not stuck on that.. im a city bug that is just looking for a nice small truck that drives like a champ in the slushy winters we get here. I would also like to be mobile while off road but Im not looking to do any mudding.

There are good and bad to every year. I have owned a 2007 and a 2011 and I have not had any problems with either one. My old man owns a 2005 DC with 119000 miles and the only problem he has had to this point is the stereo power supply burning out and the passenger side window motor dying. As long as the previous owner took care of her and did the maintenance, chances are you will be fine. Just be diligent on inspecting whatever you decide to buy and get a Carfax.

Lol skeetsak. Sorry someone was gonna point it out.

OP just have it inspected before you buy and get a Carfax then go from there.

Go thought the TSB list. That will give you an idea of stuff to look at.

I put 30K on an 05 6spd with ZERO issues. Be sure to look at the motor mount. I know some were known to crack. Just look at it before you buy. Should be fine.

    trade? sell? buy?

I had another question as well. Is there a significant difference in maintenance costs from the SR5 to TRD?

I ask not because im cheap but bc im thrifty... I dont want to spend more money only to spend more money...again on maintenance. I have been driving a 99 accord for about 5 years and I have 192xxx on it. I have gotten used to cheap parts and cheap labor on the very few things that have gone wrong

150,000 miles on my '05 and the only issues I have had are common to all years. The biggest issue was the front differential CV shaft bearing and the front wheel bearings wearing out. Replacing these bearings is not a big deal and well documented here. The other issue I continue to deal with is the inadequate wire guage and connection to the resistor for the blower motor for the heater and AC. I have replaced the resistor a couple times when the fan quit working on all but the high speed setting but it turns out to be a connection problem and the resistors actually still work. So periodically, like once a year, I have to remove the resistor and clean up the connection and otherwise deal with that issue. Not a big deal really.
So no show stoppers for me and yes I would buy the same truck again, I love it.

im guessing a TSB is a list of known problems. and not a recall list. I seem to be having problems opening spacific "listings" for know but.. ohwell

Is that just a list of things that have been known to go wrong and they give the most likely fix to that said problem?
