    KP FTW :D

Ding! Ding! +1 They were the only thing left to upgrade on this axle, so I said to myself "why not keep in theme with bulletproof part of the build?" :D

Yep...right in plain view, LOL. Had to know what you were looking for.

Mine fit fine in the spindle, but the seat in the spindle is machined deep enough for the bearing and the seal, so I still have room for the seal.

Anyways I called ECGS and they reiterated no seal is neccessary just press the bushing in until its flush on the backside of the spindle.

Since I ordered the new seals already they are going in. I guess the idea is dirt/contaminent cant get past a solid bushing like they can a bearing.

Next was installing the new kingpins. The torque spec for these is 575 ft-lbs

I used red loc-tite and got them as tight as I could

Used the installation tool from ECGS (7/8" hex stock) allowing me to use a 7/8" socket and a breaker bar. Maybe its time for a 3/4" drive socket and breaker bar :D

I was just reading up on pirate about removing the KP, as my passenger side needs to be replaced. This doesn't motivate/inspire me. :anonymous:

One of mine was loose to begin with, and the other was pretty stubborn. I cut half the kingpin away with the plasma and stuck a pipe wrench and a cheater on it. Came loose easy enough. Its harder holding the axle while you are trying to break it free.

Thanks! I am trying to document as much as I can as I go along.

Now that the kingpins were in I could start assembling the axle. Some of its gonna come apart again but I need to get it all dry fitted.

Spindle bearing eliminator bushings (UHMW) from ECGS:

    Seated a little more so I could still run a seal;

I opted for the C&M Performance Machine Brass Kingpin bushings over the Reid Racing ones bc they were almost $60 cheaper

One feature the Reid ones have are two tapped hole to thread some machine screw in to pull the bushing out of the knuckle when it comes time for maintenance. So into the vise my brand new bushings went:

Installed the shafts, caliper bracket, spindle, and hub to the passenger side then started on the drivers side.

All was going well until I tried to install the axle shafts. The "yoke" on the inner wouldnt fit throught the knuckle. I had read of this happening before so off to the grinder I went.

From there on went smoothly again.

    Complete minus lockouts and calipers.

As you may recall, this housing has been fitted with Ballistic Fabrications Dana 60 Shave Kit for those that dont http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2n...bulletproof-taco-1-ton-sac-9.html#post6044071

Well after having my gears installed I had a slight problem:

    20130428_200512_zps675445e1_86eac3327ab31d4ffa2908aea71b81a04e7d70e4.jpg

The cover no longer fit! Seriously...this cover had been a pain in the ass. When originally fitting it to the housing we had to enlarge several holes on it, and ended up half stripping a couple as well.

I contacted ballistic and they sent me another cover. This time it fit perfectly. I chase all the threads on the cover bolts, and all the threads in the housing as well. Went together like butter.
