Don't worry that day you need a trailer I'll tell you to go fuck yourself.

Build a truck on one tons, don't break much or anything. WIN, unless you get super unfortunate and break a pinion lol

WOW, wish I had the know how and the bank acct. oh yeah and 4x4 would be nice! I've debated driving mine a couple more years and then trading it for a TRDOR, that or buy a camry and then look for a 1st gen or a 4R.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is the pink apparatus used for?

Its a housing spreader, essentially opens up the housing a few thou so you can get the carrier in/out easier, and achieve the proper carrier bearing preload as well.

Well got another set-up knocked out last night. I am gonna check the pattern again today, but it looks runable now, but I may increase the pinion depth a couple thou more and check again.

***First off a few words of advice. Remove the axle, its a bitch working uner the dang truck all the time. Dont attempt this without the right tools. Get a proper pinion bearing puller, a proper carrier bearing puller, set-up bearings, housing spreader, calipers, mic, 250 ft*lb capable torque wrench, and a 0-60 in*lb torque wrench before trying this at home.***

All setups are with set-up bearings still installed.

After having the pinion in and out 11 times when Levi was over, we got the pinion preload shims nailed down perfect. Then installed and shimmed the carrier to achieve proper BL, we were ready to check a pattern, lol.

    First setup:

    Pinion Preload-30 in*lbs
    Backlash .006"

    Drive Side

    IMG950773_zpsfzxlol4o_6b49b5a1f2150e605ee92abdb380c6c1c5758c81.jpg

Finally got a chance to work on it again so here's Try #2:

Added .005" to pinion shim, reinstalled adjusting pinion preload shims as well
    Pinion Preload-35 in*lbs
    Backlash .005"

    Drive Side

We will see what the gear gods have to say about it, lol.

@ZUK lets see what he has to say...

Me and the ginger were talking about this last night and thank god for Toyota drop outs, i helped setup a d30 and d44 under the truck once and it SUCKED. So much easier to jack around with the 3rd on the workbench, kitchen table, in front of the tv where ever..... Plus not having shims on a lot of them is nice.

Good point on the tools, it amazes me when people drop 3k in diffs then refuse to buy the right tools to do this because they are expensive.

Im going to pick up my randy's ring and pinion bearing puller that i bought and let someone borrow 12yrs ago, in preparation to set my 9.5s up.
