I'm going to assume that if you attempt this repair that you are some what mechanically inclined. Start by removing the 4- 12mm bolts that hold the ADD assembly and actuator fork to you front differential.

Make sure to have a catch pan handy because you will lose about 2 pints of gear oil. This is what you will pull out.

Remove the black actuator cover from the fork housing. 5 phillips head screws are holding this on.

This is what you should see.

Now you need to test the actuator motor. Use a couple of wires to jump from the battery and touch it to the copper terminals on the motor. If the motor works then your actuator is still good. Most likely the reason that your actuator has quit working is the very small amount of solder melted away. I used some small copper wire and wrapped the terminals tightly.

You could also add some solder if you want i didn't because I didn't have any.

For reassembly make sure that you clean the surface of the fork housing and the front of the differential housing where the 2 surfaces meet. Then apply a thin layer of RTV silicone and reassemble. Don't for get to put some gear oil back in your housing as well. Like i said this worked for me but if your actuator motor is not working you most likely need a new ADD.

Could you just buy a new motor if it? That is if the motor is bad?

    valuable info! thank you!

there was another member who posted similar info but, with as much traffic as this place gets, I think its ok for something to come on the board more than once

    thanks again

edit: its awesome to see somebody new to the forum who has something better than a question on how to plasti-dip their rims or something. this is a good writeup with good pictures. somehow the thread about diesels will get more traffic though. . . I don't understand it

one more edit: your shoes are freakin me the eff out though lol

Great writeup from a new member. I think I've seen a similar thread, but that's alright.

How do you like those Vibram toe shoe things? I've been curious to try a pair, but my feet are oddly shaped and I think I'd have a hard time finding some that fit.
