I just bought a 2005 and the guy only has one key for it. I believe the key is chipped and thus I cannot just easily have a local hardware store cut a new one. What if I keep the chipped key hidden in the cab and just cut un-chipped keys for use. Would the chipped key hidden in the cab allow for no-chipped keys to start and run the truck?

    That’s not an option
You will have to spend some cash for another key at stealership
I just crashed my 05 here in Mass. when they licked it up they don’t even take the 3 other keys and viper remote for car start. Lol

If you have a V6 you have a chipped key, if you have a 4 cyl most likely you do not.

A locksmith should be able to cut and program keys much cheaper than the dealer will.

Yes you can with a module. You might be able to take the old key and stick it in the steering wheel shroud that covers the ignition switch. it would have to be very close to the ignition switch, there is a round bezel around the key insert. This is the antenna that reads the chip. I have reprogrammed new keys that required a new ignition switch so the old key wouldn’t work saving the headache of a reseeding process. This is done by placing the old key on top of the new, and starting the process on tis.
