I have recently noticed an issue with my coolant system. The resevoir was down to the "Low" mark and I topped it off. Took a trip, came back and immediately checked it. It was over full and draining out onto the ground! Every time I have removed the radiator cap to check it is full as well. I don't know what is going on with this system! It also will make a gulping sound right after shutting the truck down. Sounds like fluid moving though hoses and such. I haven't added anymore coolent to the system. What gives?

maybe it wasn't burped and was overfilled, I would top off the radiator and resovoir with the engine cold and see what happens from there, possibly the thermostat getting stuck intermitently

Yes. I topped it off resevoir when it was cold not hot/warm. The coolant level has always been right at the top of the radiator, so no need to add any to it.

sometimes coolant gets stuck in the heater core, so maybe there was coolant in the system already but showed a low level then you re-topped off and it overspilled. I would keep an eye on it I think its alright

This has been like this for several weeks. I have stopped adding fluid and just let the resevoir sit at "LOW". I have no lights or overheating on the temp guage. Something has to be going on though...I am never that lucky! I guess I could go burp the system a few times and see what happens or flush the whole system?

I would try a new thermostat which is easy and cheap option and u can do it yourself pretty easy, maybe its hanging up and not opening/closing properly, the good word on thermostats is to use an OEM or AISIN brand.

Try a coolant flush first and then if that doesn't work, take it to Toyota. Dont want to mess around with that.

I was actually thinking about just going ahead and replacing the water pump, serpentine belt, and thermostat. I am a pretty handy guy. Know anywhere that I can get all of this in a kit maybe?

    What????

How does coolant get "stuck" in the heater core?

If the water pump is working the coolant is circulating through the heater core.

You might as well get a new radiator cap.
It’s what allows the coolant to flow in/out of the reservoir.
It does more than that, but it has a function in you original problem.
