SOLVED, compression tested motor and I ran out of compression. Need to add more.

Cracked the radiator and over heated a few weeks ago and finally tinkering with it.

My initial thoughts were that I fried the crank sensor since tachometer doesn't move while cranking but when I plug in my scanner I see an rpm of 175ish when cranking.

Tried starting fluid and nothing, verified fuel pump is working.

Does dash tach pull from somewhere different than ecu tach?

I really don't want to pull all the crap and swap a crank sensor if I don't need to.

I'm half tempted to say fuck it and just LS swap time.

How did you verify that the fuel pump was working?
Jumping power to the pump just means the pump works.
But the pump won't come on, unless the ECM allows it.

Evidently, You have an ignition issue.
Have you scanned the truck for codes?

Disconnected the fuel line and tried to start the truck and verified fuel sprayed everywhere as soon as I cranked.

    No stored codes.

Immobilizer light does not blink when key is in ignition.

    Ok. Thanks for the info.
It's like you knew what In was going to ask next.

Let me pull up some diagrams and check for power at the coils.

    With the key ON.
Do you have power (12v) to the Black/Red wire on the ignition coils? (Checking just one coil will be fine. No need to check them all)

    The White/Black should be Ground.

Also, did you do any work to the truck other than replace the radiator?
Are you sure you have everything plugged in?
Did you disconnect any sensors or wires when working on the truck?

Key on initially no voltage then after giving it a crank has 12 volts.

Didn't even replace the radiator yet, wanted to see if it has any weird noises before spending money on a replacement radiator vs something better for am LS swap

That is strange, the B/R wire should show power with the key on.
Why it only shows power AFTER crank is odd?

What voltage does the white/red wire show with key on? (Ignition coil)

@Dm93 @Bishop84 is there a certain RPM the truck needs to see before it will allow ignition?
Maybe 175ish isn't enough to allow ignition? I would not think so? But I'm just a guy that cuts grass for a living.
I don't work on these things daily. :)

OP, I'm bad to run down rabbit holes.
I "usually" get things figured out.......eventually.
But the guys I tagged above will know the "short cuts" and will likely have better ideas of what to "check" first.

White red wire shows 5.03 volts with key on, after a crank still shows 5.03 volts

Have you pulled a coil out and checked for spark?

How badly did you overheat it?

If it got that hot the engine is probably toast but check and make sure you have spark.

I figured I'd have a blown HG but wanted to actually run it to check if it would need a new bottom end. First.

You can try pulling all the plugs and drying them off but if it's blown so bad there's no compression it's not gona run.

Solved, did a compression test and truck ran out of compression, going to put an LS in it to get some compression back.
