    Build thread in sig...
you can, just a lot of work. very popular in the land rover world. galvanized frame and aluminum body panels, and they are good to go forever.

Congrats on your truck getting new parts and at a good low cost for you. No offense but you might have to go back for a alignment. Depending on how much the tech(s) drove your truck after putting it back together, things can settle and change the alignment.

    thanks.

alignment was done. it was on the cards for the service we had it in for back in Dec and I think they needed to do it after the control arms were swapped anyway. we'll see if there's any pull etc once we get it out on the highway for a bit.

Great to hear they finally took care of it for you OP.
Sadly, I think this will be the first of many frame replacement stories on 2nd gens that we will read here. Hopefully future stories will be less pages to read and less drama.

it's probably a question of when something official is going to take place as opposed to if.

That is the best news of the day I've heard so far. Congrats on your perseverance and determination to see that this was put right for you. Well done! I own a 2007 and this thread *may* become a landmark for my frame should it start to exhibit the same rust pattern. Saved and bookmarked for future use.

Finally, we can say "Enjoy your Tacoma!"

not enjoying it right now, it's back in the shop, LOL.

the stick shift flopped all the way over to the left when I was trying to put it into reverse. luckily I jiggled it back into position and got back to the shop.

they think the bushings are dead and we are on the hook for a replacement kit since they don't sell the bushings separately. grumble grumble.

I was all set to have them install the quick shift kit back in Dec but returned that when the frame situation arose.

DoorDing, how many cans of Fluid Film does it take to do a good job on the underside of a DC?

Got my truck with the busted frame under the motor mount back today. The guy who did the welding said he thought it looked like the cause was the weight of the V6 sitting on a weak (thin?) part of the frame that was cracked and rusted. Boom! The motor mount goes through the frame.

I've paid for it all myself, but have a case number with Toyota Corporate.

I'm so glad to hear the OP was taken care of between Corporate and his dealer. Yeah!!!

I was looking at their site, and the gallon kit with the spray gun. But I may go with three cans as that same company sells a three-pack on Amazon. That might be a good place for me to start, anyway. Thanks for the info on coverage!

I'm starting to count on you for a laugh DoorDing. :) Might not want to put it on your boots, but it's got LANOLIN in it. Fluid Film might be awesome for your boots!

Fluid Film. Who knew? The new boot protectant.

I get it without having to smell it. Or I think I do! We spent a lot of time tent camping in Yellowstone recently.

I've got to keep myself laughing after all that money out the door on the frame fix.

(Interesting about the use on leather though. I keep a bottle of the Zaino leather care around to take care of my leather recliner. I got it during my brief time as a 4runner limited owner. Zaino's stuff brought the leather seats back to life. That is good stuff!) And I am massively off topic.

Thanks for directing me to this thread, DoorDing. I gave you props.

Nope, you don't. It stinks in some weird way... Hard to characterize but when you smell it, you'll have one of those 'Aha' moments. :)

AMSOIL's got a Heavy Duty Lube Spray that's *very* similar. They seem to have very similar properties, and when I'm done this can of FF, I think I'll just stick to the AMSOIL HD stuff. It seems to do the same penetration/lubrication/harden to a wax/protection job that FF does, but it smells like such a product should smell...like an oil/solvent/lube. Not like something rotten. That, and I drank the AMSOIL kool-aid long ago and absolutely love the stuff they produce.

    YMMV though!

    Cheers,
    Marc

Okay, I stand corrected. But I was thinking along the lines of dead meat. ;) I'm gonna check out the AMSOIL now....

Yep, and that pisses me off. I rather pay more for something that's of higher quality and will last longer than buy something cheaper that's practically disposable...
