There is no way it can be considered "normal" for any area. I had an '88 Bronco with 289k that spent all but the last 10k in Kansas (rust belt) and all that thing had was light surface rust on the frame.

The fenders/hood/gas tank/exhaust were to the point where the mud was the only thing keeping them together, but the frame was one sand-blast and a spray can away from looking nearly factory.

Did Toyota replace his frame for him due to rust?

    BTW-Please post your pictures.

Right now unless Toyota makes good on my frame or truck I am unlikely to buy another Toyota. I will be in the market for a full size truck as my next vehicle and will be looking elsewhere if I cannot have faith in my truck to last 5 years without rotting through from the inside out. Seems to me they can figure out how to make/paint/protect body panels not to rust, why can't they figure out a frame?

My 2004 was lost to frame rust, and I happily replaced it with a 2013. I put 230,000 miles on my '04 with nothing more than tires, brakes, fluids and filters. It was easily the most reliable and economical vehicle I've ever owned, and I've owned a lot. I flaked on the TSB notices and failed to do the treatment, so when it failed inspection this year I was out of luck since the TSB expired. You would think I would be a pissed off customer, quite the contrary. Toyota offered to do the right thing. Perform the TSB and you have 10 year warranty on the frame. No other company on earth would step up to the plate that way, not Chevy, Dodge or Ford. Not unless they were forced to do so by the NHTSA. So I drove my '04 for 10 years, had 5 of those years without a payment. That truck owed me not one red cent.

And funny thing... I sold that truck with a rotted frame for good money in less than 10 minutes on Craigslist (with full disclosure). Hows that for a testament for resale value?

    he's talking about 1st gen.

there is no stated national corporate policy on 2nd gen frames at this time.

some 2nd gen owners have gotten the frame swap done by toyota at no cost but this is on a case by case basis.

I don't think Dana is supplying frames anymore as they went out of business a few years back. I believe Hino is the frame supplier now but I am unsure where along the way did they switch over. I am going to go out on a limb and guess that it was for the 2007 models and up. It seems like those guys are not having the issues that the early 2nd gens are 2005-2006

The 05 and 06 models have also been around to experience a few more years worth of road salt and weather than the 07s. Give it time. The 07 rust threads will be here soon. Then 08, etc...

there were some discussions of Dana issues earlier in this very thread. I bet there are others in the forum too.

I'm not sure if we've found a cut-off date for when changes might have been made and how this impacts trucks like 2005's which may have been manufactured in late 2004 (for example).

Absolutely no reason for the underside to look like this when the rest of the truck looks like this

Wow, thats brutal. By why are all the undersides of your trucks so dry? Should have been putting some fucking coating or something on them since day 1.

Never had another car or truck EVER have anything more than a spot of surface rust here or there. Nothing in the manual says anything about the frame...Why do/should any car maker even bother with any paint or undercoating....might as well leave them raw steal if we should prevent the rust on our own.

That's crazy. I know that Kibbetech can do frame rebuild. Maybe contact them and see if you can get that part of the frame rebuilt.

Just for reference. You can contact kibbetech through email. sales@kibbetech.com. I don't know them but I follow them on instagram and it looks to me as if they are pretty nice people that do quality work.

Honestly the entire frame is ROUGH ....I have just post pics I could take without crawling under...it's a mess under there. It needs a complete frame or bought from me. Funny how the control arms and other places away from the cancer are not effected
