    Hello All,
I am a new owner of a 2005 Tacoma regular cab 4 cyl. 2.7. As I do with all my newly acquired vehicles I am doing a full maintenance. I am completely confused is in regards to the capacity of the ATF with a drain and filter change. I visited the local Advance Auto Parts store to buy the ATF. After seeing a capacity on one of the Toyota websites i was ready to purchase 4 Quarts. The website said it requires 3.3 quarts. The owner's manual says it takes 2.1 quarts with a drain and refill. The parts man looked it up and told me it only holds 2.i quarts with a filter change. This seemed to be not enough so I purchased the 4 quarts and went to my friends shop to drop the pan and replace the filter. Because of the discrepancy in the fluid amount we let the fluid drain into an old 1 gallon antifreeze bottle. The fluid filled the gallon as well as another quart. We refilled it with 5 quarts and after driving and getting the transmission hot it still required another quarter of quart.
Today I checked the Haynes manual which said it holds 2.1 quart on a drain and refill.

Can someone please advised what the proper amount this transmission requires. I cannot understand to huge difference in the amounts.

I hope no one changed the dipstick.

Is it possible the torque converter drained?

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Pete

How are you checking the fluid? Running? Which gear?

It is a 4 speed automatic. I am testing it with the dipstick. It is in neutral. After driving for 10 minutes.
    Thanks
