2005 tacoma prerunne replace u-joints and yoke is extremely stiff now. If I reinstall driveshalf will it start to break in a little or stay stiff and or slowly ruin transmission? The spot were the retainer clips go go a tiny bit pushed in but retainer clips still go in with new u- joints. I took it back apart again because it was so stiff and has little give when I move it around and want to try and get it right before I put driveshaft on truck. Just replaced center bearing for 3rd time now and went ahead and replaced the extension seal on tranny because it was leaking also. Sick of dealing with this don't know how many time I can keep taking these u-joints on and off trying to get it to go on with and not be so stiff once retainer clips in about to give up. Any advice much appreciated thank you

Whenever I do ujoints I always tap the caps with a ball peen hammer to make sure they are not bound up. 99% of the time this works. If they are still tight then I have messed up.

Sometimes new ujoints can flop around, and other times they are firm, but not tight. Might need to pull it and tap the caps and feel it in your hand.

Are they new u joints you are putting in?

I know they do come with different thickness retainer clips.

Thanks for responding. I just called 3 o'riellys auto parts and one guy supposedly just confirmed that the u joint that goes to the yoke and transmission end is millimeters in deference from the other 2 u joints and he guarantees this is the issue. Going to pick up now and see if this is why it's so stiff and no play. I was looking at my old retainer clips thinking of using trying those as well. Has anyone heard of this since I am buying 2 ujoints and a 3rd that's different?

All rear u joints are the same size.

You want 3 of these to do your rear driveshaft
