Once every few days my 2005 Tacoma refuses to start in the morning. When I turn the key,I hear one click and then nothing. All the instrumentation panel lights are on. After a few tries the truck fires up. I have read that the most likely issue is the contacts on the starter. Can anyone plese tell me where the starter is on the truck and how to get to it? I may need to replace it also.

    Thanks

my 2005 starter went out yesterday, I'm waiting for it right now. Is 6 years a reasonable life for a starter? what did you have to pay to replace it? I'm looking at $285.

I was going to buy the starter from Autozone and replace it myself. I managed to get to the starter on my truck, thanks to the great help from Oswego, but unfortuntely I could not budge the retaining bolts.
All in all, this was probably a good thing as upon doing research afterwards, there appears to be common concensus that the autozone starters suck.
A local shop has quoted me $175.00 for replacing contacts and $350.00 for replacing the starter.Due to lack funds I am holding out.Is there anyone here who can help me out for less labor? I am in the Corona,Southern California area.I can get the contacts from the dealer for around ten bucks.

I think my starter just went out today. I have an '06 with 57k miles on it. First it was my maf sensor now starter. Hopefully my truck is not dying on me and gonna become a money pit. The worst part of my starter suing out on me is that I'm stuck on a hill. FML

My starter just went bad as well. To replace it do I need to remove any of the suspension components, or just the wheel/tire and rubber shroud?

Also, would someone be able to recommend which one to buy from RockAuto.com?

    Thanks
