Know its not a 2nd gen, but i gotta tell this story...

Worked for a gas company while in college. They had a 91 4runner there. I worked there in 2001. They had black fingernail polish over the odometer. I never noticed it until like a year after i worked there. I asked why the cover up and the boss told me it was getting high in miles and he didnt want tech's to worry it would break down when they took it out. I asked him how many miles were on it. he said well over 500K when he put the polish on it...I left there in 2003, i scratched it off and the Odometer said 724,421. We drove that thing everywhere. Had every bit of the suspension replaced twice. added support to the frame. 31 sets of tires. That thing was a beast. holes rusted in the floorboards everywhere. no radio. no heat, no a/c. wipers were the only thing that actually worked right on it when i left. He traded it in a few months after i left and the dealership gave him $1500 for it...Said it was the most miles they had ever seen on a 4runner. A corporate Toyota rep was supposed to come down and look at it for some reason. Boss thought they were gonna put it in a museum...lol

I'd say he got his money out of it...

Great story it seems those early 90 Toyota's are built so frickin well. I had a 92 camry for 8 years...lasted me through high school and college. Drove that thing to and from work every day in the summers...I can't imagine how much many I saved with that vehicle. I gave it to my bro and it's still running, somewhere around 262k.
