Found a solid deal on a 2005, 4x4, 4 door long bed Tacoma. I currently have a first gen and have been looking at moving to a 2010 to 2015 Tacoma. Could I get some advice on the pros/cons of getting a 2005 vs a later model 2nd gen?

    Thanks

Head gasket and motor mounts are something you should look into.

No head gasket issues at 178k here. But definitely a possibility for that year.

He said "blown" not "blows" leading me to believe he was saying his blew, not they will all blow.

As the years go by,the late model gen 2 with the v6 4.0 thats in good shape, low miles will be a hard to find and sought after vehicle. Grab a good one while you can.

Some had head gasket issues, but I see some with 350k still going strong. Mine has 244k KM and starts right up and runs perfect

i have a 2005 trd off road V6 with 208.000 miles and runs fantastic. Starts everytime, looks new, engine sounds beautiful
    Tranny is excellent
Not one single issue, and they all have the same body until 2011

I mean my taco, but is a issue to verify before buying a 2005 taco.

If you buy a 12-15 the secondary air pump is a problem. Mine was swapped at 40k under warranty

Secondary air pump (emissions garbage) was an issue with the 12's. I haven't heard of many having the issue w/ the 13-15s.

Make sure you have a frame inspection done.

I would look into seeing if all the recalls have been done and inspect the frame and motor mounts really good yourself. Other than that for 05, yeah head gaskets are a problem but these 4.0l engine are relatively cheap just to replace with a long block. If the truck appeals to your liking then I would say go for it
