I've spent enough time searching for info on this. New thread time.

I know this truck is drive by wire but I don't see any way to control the throttle from under the hood. I've had someone press the accelerator inside the truck while I watch for movement around the intake/TB area, and I did not see anything move while the engine speed changed. Hard to believe there is no way to open the throttle from under the hood, is this true? Or did I miss something?

I have no reason for wanting to rev the engine while under the hood, no problem that I'm trying to fix. I am just curious about the apparent lack of underhood throttle control.

If it's been discussed before, please link the thread(s). Thanks in advance!

only way to open it is to push it open under the hood or like you said have some one push on the gas inside the truck

There is nothing to push under the hood. It is all controlled by the throttle position sensor and throttle control motor.

OP yes the only way is to press the throttle pedal inside the truck.

Seems like he is referencing taking off the intake housing to allow access to the 'butterfly valve' inside the Throttle Body, but that won't work because the MAF sensor will be taken out of the equation and you will be introducing unmetered air.

Thanks for this. It is a way to manually open the throttle plate (technically this does answer my question), but you are right, disconnecting the intake means the MAF won't be sensing the airflow going into the engine and I don't know enough about the ECM to say what that will do. Guessing it would probably screw up the AFR and throw a code, and with enough revving it might default to open loop as well.

In no way should you manually OPEN up the throttle valve with the engine running, you risk damaging the throttle body and at the very least you will trigger the check engine lamp, probably with a APP sensor 1 & 2 correlation code - meaning the PCM sees throttle angle with no input from the accelerator pedal. Keep your hands to yourself :annoyed:

I think he was talking about removing the intake plumbing to expose the throttle plate and physically opening it, say, with a screwdriver or something... haha haaaa

It's less Tacoma and more mod
I'm pretty sure with bidirectional controls on a scan tool you can simulate pedal pushes for throttle testing purposes, but scan tools with brand specific bi-di controls aren't cheap so not a great solution I suppose.
