Good morning everyone. Yesterday i replaced the alternator on my 06 4.0 tacoma. I bought a denso rebuilt alt from the dealer got it all in and now the engine bay is squealing super loud. sounds like a belt squeal from the alternator area. Any Ideas?

Maybe a bearing in one of the pulleys?

You might want to consider replacing the belt as it may have been damaged when it was running while misaligned.

That's not long, but you have no way of knowing if any damage was done. Was it a new belt? I'm a bit anal on things that might strand me on the side of the road.

New tensioner and idler pulleys might be an idea, too

Hey guys I’m back. Drove completely perfectly for 5 days then the battery light came on. Battery reads 12.45v when truck is off and reads 11.88 while truck is running(not revving the engine). The light came on, and went off after about 5 miles, turned on, and now it has been on for 5 miles or so. Any ideas? Mind you the alternator is a denso rebuilt alt from the dealer. The parts guys asked me about my truck I told him v6 with towing package. Is there a chance he got the wrong part number?

Only difference in them is max current output.
Charging system is super easy to check with a test light.

Check and clean all the connections with steel wool or a piece of fine sand paper. Make sure everything is clean and tight. Check the alt with a meter. Needs to be putting out 13.6-14.4 volts to meet spec. The reman from the dealer I just put in mine puts out 13.8-14.0 at idle. Put about 5k miles on the truck since I replaced it.

Is the positive cable tight on the alt? No bent pins in the connector?

Denso is the top of the pile when comparing reman starters and alternators but every now and then I'll get a bad one..

Is that belt loose, from the misalignment earlier?

Loose belt, could be slipping on the alternator pulley.

Battery was fine, right? Then you did something and now battery has a problem...

How old is the battery, maybe it's just coincidence.

Somewhere out there is a $10 digital multimeter with your name on it.

Alright, took the battery out and got a look down in there. The cap on the terminal above the 10mm nut holding the cable on was heavily corroded and the cap holding the cable on was all melted on the inside. I broke the cap off on accident. Cleaned it all off and no more battery light. Do I need this cap? And why do you think it corroded so fast.

Maybe it wasn't tight to begin with and was getting extremely hot, metal that gets really hot will corrode very quickly.

Nah, it's there more to protect from shorts if someone sticks a wrench down there without unhooking the battery than to keep corrosion out. Put a bit of grease on the connection to keep it from corroding.
