yeah i know they are known to tick, and mine has for a long time and wasn't too concerning. until yesterday... not sure what happened but i noticed it under low rpm acceleration (before magnaflow starts to drone).

can be heard clearly at idle as the attached video shows, but also is heard driving.

the scrape/crunch sound in the middle of the video is my dad putting the hood prop in, not the engine noise

    injectors? valve adjustment?

not sure... im a fairly well informed 17 year old, given i'm a 17 year old.

yes i change my own oil and yes the oil level is correct. going to change the oil tomorrow anyways on schedule with my full synthetic change every 5k miles.

also, tossed a gallon or two of 32:1 premix gas from my boat in on an almost full tank a few days ago but i dont think that could have caused it right?

    any help is appreciated!

    thanks

    Actually.

That sounds like a Toyota with some miles on it.

The gas don't hurt anything but I'd be hesitant to do anything that may cause catalytic converter issues. Too expensive to fix to get rid of a couple bucks of gas.

look for exhaust leaks, gaskets, rust holes, mating surfaces from y-pipe to the manifold. Also buy a mechanics stethoscope from harbor freight for 5 bucks and have a listen for ticks and knocking. A long screw driver would work as well

it crossed my mind but i decided that its far too metallic sounding under acceleration for it to be any sort of exhaust leak

it had the taco tick for as long as i can remember but it got much worse within the past few days.

the premix was not 32:1 for the whole tank. it was a splash of 32:1 in on an almost full tank of regular fuel. cars with high miles burn a whole lot more oil than that.

It's hard to tell from a video/audio, but it kind of sounds to me like an a exhaust leak. Get a length of rubber hose, like 3/8 fuel line. Stick one end in your ear and point the other end around to to see if you can pinpoint a source. When the hose is pointing at the source the sound will be much more distinct. This technique works well when a contact stethoscope is not practical. I keep a length of hose in my trail kit just for this purpose.

Given you have an 06, I’d assume you’ve got quite a bit of mileage on it. you might consider a high mileage non synthetic oil, it may help a little.

they make a couple different types of high mileage oils, some for around 75k some for 100k, some for 200 etc.
I’ve been using the 100k non synthetic and yeah I still have the tick, but it’s much quieter than what I’m hearing in the video.
Imo it doesn’t sound like an exhaust leak, in my experience exhaust leaks sound more like a putter.... it that’s even a word.

An exhaust leak is very metallic sounding.

You know your vehicle, if it's worse over a few weeks, something prob. is going on. Knocking accelerating does sound like too much.

104K miles sounds like too few for valve clearance problems.

Really look for a leak and if not found go to the screwdriver and try to narrow it down. Injectors can be very loud also but I'm not going to say that's from being faulty or not just that my experiences with bad injectors was not noise.

The bad thing is ANY sound inside the engine sounds like it's coming from RIGHT THERE but you should be able to determine if inside or out. (exhaust leak) and with enough spots listened to, should be able to point in SOME direction.
    Good Luck.

I don't think the premix was a huge deal but I probably wouldn't do more than a gallon at a time into a full tank and I certainly wouldn't make a habit of it.

Putting a gallon of 40:1 premix into a full 20 gallon tank of gas burns about the same amount of oil as a truck that uses a quart of motor oil every 3300 miles driven.
