Hello. I recently purchased a 2006 4x4 TRD 4.0 1GR-FE double cab with great drive train and low mileage and immaculate interior and body. This truck has new exhaust, rotors, front suspension, steering assembly, leaf springs, front axles and is really not worth turning into parts. Frame was coated with CRC when inspected by Taylor Toyota in Regina in 2017 instead of replaced. Beneath that CRC was a frame with bad constituent metal and the coating only sealed in the rot. Without doing destructive inspection i missed the extent to which this corrosion had taken hold and now am unable to make safety in Manitoba. Toyota-canada has denied any responsibility or recourse on the frame now that the campaign is over and i'm not the owner who was technically part of that classification.
I'm currently faced with the only option of frame replacement as the frame repairs I did using SafeTcaps and new body mounts on the front end are considered to be non OEM (although they are designed to OEM specs) and deemed "improper frame repair" by MPI (manitoba public insurance) even though the frame appears and is as strong as new with the caps installed.
I've been searching for a replacement frame, however since the campaign ended the sub-frames available in Canada through Toyota are listed at $15000 loonies (CAN) :p Its confusing because since the replacement campaign ended it appears as though the model of the frame has been changed and the price has doubled!
Now i'm looking for the possibility of a used frame to replace mine with. I may have found one at the local dealer, however it is an access cab and not a double cab. Even the dealer seems unsure of the exact difference in dimensions. I can get it at a very reasonable price. I've seen video of how a frame can be shortened along the interlocking sections of the rear portion of the frame. However i don't believe that extending the frame would be a viable option. The price is right however only $2000.
Does anyone have the dimension specs for comparison of the 2006 double cab compared to Access cab?
