Anyone else had issues with their roof paint failing and starting to rust? I have a 06 double cab and noticed this recently (I don't see the top of my roof all the time, so I'm not sure how long it took to get this way). At the moment it's only surface rust. Going to cost me around $450 to get it repaired and repainted. The repair shop did tell me this was a common problem with darker colored vehicles here in Florida. They said it's usually the hood that goes first though. Everywhere else on the vehicle is fine, although I am concerned that the hood might eventually do this as well now.

Anyways, make sure to watch your roof as your truck starts to get older to make sure this doesn't happen to you. The metal on the roof is very thin and I imagine this would turn into a much greater rust problem in short time if unchecked.

Exactly. We have the same issues here in AZ, only worse. If you want the paint to last, you have to maintain it and keep a good wax/sealant on it.

Feel bad for you OP!Every vehicle i've ever owned i have made sure i pay extra attention to the roof and hood so that this doesn't happen sooner.Absolute must if you want your paint to last you keep it clean as well as using a quality wax/sealant for the obvious protection!

The auto car wash spray wax is a joke. It would not prevent this. You need to wax the old fashion way. Paste or liquid wax and elbow grease.

jeep3.jpg Just repaint the whole truck yourself. My son's Jeep we put together on a budget cost about $100. OK, just throwing out an option, your truck looks to nice for this route.

How could you have not noticed this earlier? Obviously you don't wash/wax very often or at all if you didn't notice this starting years ago.
