Hi. So my truck has 150k on it and its a great truck. Towing my trailer when its loaded up, throttle wise, hauling up a hill. I get a loss of power. I will be going along good probably 3/4 throttle, and i get this loss of power just like i take my foot off the gas. It doesnt stall or anything, just power loss. I let off the throttle and its fine again, until i load up again and another power loss. Its like my fuel filter is clogged and when it loads up it cant handle it and loses power. Only problem is, i cant find a fuel filter on this truck. No fuel filter. hmmm. So now im thinking fuel pump. Truck runs like a top until loaded up a hill and power loss. Maybe my MAF is dirty? Air filter is spotless.
    What you think?

how heavy is the trailer you tow? I assume its not the air stream in the photo.

It might have something to do with that bumper. Poor little guy is crying out for help.

Just spitballing, but could it be transmission overheat throwing it into limp mode?

I might be off base though, I've never gone that far overtemp.

    Maybe be the fuel pump.
    It operates on 2 speed.
Low speed for normal engine load.
High speed for heavy engine load. And starting.
Once it warms up, maybe it starts to fail on the higher speed?

The fuel pump and filter are located in the tank. A few reports of filter getting clogged enough that under higher loads it cant supply enough fuel. Also some reports of the fuel pump resistor going bad.

Definitely a good idea to start by cleaning the MAF

I cleaned the maf so i will see next time i go camping. Its probably not too bad pulling that pump due to the fiberglass bed liner. I just got a new frame a few months ago so bolts will be fairly fresh. It feels exactly like i abruptly let off the throttle. I still have power but reduced. Its not like its stalling or sputtering.

Road dog. I only tow in 4th on flat ground. So im doing about 80kph at about 3200rpm in 3rd on steepish hills? Just a guess but i dont bag on my truck i would say 3500rpm maximum otherwise i drop a gear.
I have not noticed a loss with no trailer but this just started happening and have not driven my truck. Will take it out tomorrow. On flat ish travels with trailer no problem whatsoever. Just the odd hill. Also air conditioning is on. Truck temperature never goes above 1/2 way point.

All good Road dog, something lost in translation. Me not bagging on my truck is just a statement. I take it pretty cool. Thanks. It looks and rides very nice and am happy the taco can handle the trailer. I will take my truck out tomorrow and see what happens.

I went for an hour long drive this morn including a good hill (Summerland hill) and truck ran flawless. Good power, good acceleration, not a hick up, fart, nothing. Looked over the engine and its spotless. No oil leaks, rad leaks. Rad expansion tank at proper lever no crap in it bright orange. So ya. I will have to wait for the next camping trip hauling that anchor of a trailer. 147k on the odometer. No engine fault lights. Runs beautiful as usual.
