Hi, I have a 2006 Tacoma SR5 and I’m having issues with cylinder misfires on 2 and 3. I have recently replaced both coils and spark plugs. The truck idles rough at rest but even worse when in drive or reverse and will sometimes cut out heavily when giving light throttle. I can accelerate with no problems but when I come to rest or try to maintain a speed it likes to start misfiring and idling rough. Is my next step to look at the injectors? Or are there any other solutions/issues I should be looking for to pinpoint what’s going on?

Theres a number of things to check, I'll keep it simple for DIYer.

I would likely do a quick compression check to ensure they cylinder is sealed and no valves are burnt etc

I'd likely swap injectors left to right, see if the misfire moves.

    Are you getting P0302 P0303?

Because its 2 and 3 which fire after another its possible its only one cylinder, but you need to isolate.

Pull the EFI Relay, crank it over, and see if it turns over evenly or if it has a skip.

Also, I had a Toyota mechanic run a compression test whenever I was having overheating and coolant loss issues and he had no issues. So the head gasket should be fine. The truck has about 298000 miles on it and has never had the injectors cleaned or replaced to my knowledge.

Yes, it is a P0302 and P0303 I’ll definitely try swapping over the injectors! Thanks for your help!
