Got an electrical problem and I'm drawing a blank.

Truck won't start, turn over or anything. No click. Headlights won't come on. Dash lights are dim and kind of flicker. Horn won't blow and radio will not turn on.

I've replaced the battery, checked the ground cable at the battery, disconnected the electrical leads to the alternator and starter to see if I could clear up the interior electrical symptoms. I initially thought it might be the starter.

Anyway, does anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks a bunch in advance.

    -Jason.

Recheck and retighten all electrical connections at the battery, and the ground. You might have a bad cable as well, with internal breaks. Also, the battery you got might be bad. Have it load tested, it could be a dud.

Kings, 275/70/17, a few custom items, lots of Meso mods.
Should have a fusible link in or near main fuse panel in engine compartment. If that goes nothing will work.

It's definitely not getting power, did you try jumping it??
As sktrain said go thru your wires to make sure they are secured and tighten good and if not try a jump then if it works it's the battery

What was going on before the truck died? We need more info.

Died while driving, didn't start in the morning, installed something.. etc?

Checked connections and all seem to be tight. Parked it in driveway the night before last, then had this problem the next morning. Nothing.

One symptom I can think of that had been going on, is the interior audible beep when the door is open was intermittent, sometimes would work and sometimes wouldn't. This had been going on for a few weeks.

Maybe the ignition switch is failing, causing intermittent problems and weak electrical flow, especially if some things work, and others don't. Have you tried cranking it in neutral? Could also be bad transmission safety switch...

    No Dome light no nothing???

As Stated - try the Jump.
Also - as stated - check your main heavy gauge wires/all end connections. Inspect ALL the wire closely. Run your hand down the wires and feel for a bump (Cut/break/corrosion under wire covering).
Use the Jumper cable (one) to bypass the battery cable if safely possible .... (i.e. jump neg post to Chassis and engine grounds)

Put your headlights on while doing all the above and watch for light intensity...

Please let us know what you find.

    Do you have an alarm?

    Do you have aftermarket headers?

Do you have any other electronics which could have bad wiring?

Fixed. The battery that I bought from Walmart was bad. We'll see if the alternator is charging though. Still not sure why my original battery died all of a sudden. It was only a little over 2 years old.

And thanks for all of the replies!!!

Interesting.... I'm due for a new battery (original 4 1/2 yrs old) and I've been looking and watching for a new battery
(no hurry - yet ). I kinda settled on the Walmart Ever-start mostly due to the Warranty. However- Walmart in central Mass have not hade these in stock since at least Late Summer. After Inquiries Walmart had reasons for out of Stock and even suggested I go elsewhere. Not sure If it's a Battery Issue or Not -But Now Plan to swap with a Sears Gold.

I bought a battery from Wally World and I had to put A LOT of distilled water in it to top it off. I haven't had a problem with it but it was way way low on water...

By saying you had to top it off with a lot of water, was this to bring the water level up to the bottom of the fill ports, or all the way to the top of the fill ports?

If I remember my Chemistry from long ago .... The battery uses water in discharge and makes water during Charge. Perhaps you received an older off shelf battery that was low on charge from sitting. One you get it charged up and topped off it should not need much if any water. I'd keep an eye on it - if it continues to use water I'd bring it back ...

In retrospect I should have just returned it but once in the vehicle and running it for awhile, the water level was still really low. It's still going...knock on wood.
