I have a 2006 Tacoma doublecab TRD Sport and the headlights are suffering from the problem with the melting plastic around the turn signal/parking light/daytime running light bulbs.

So I was looking on Rockauto and see that they have headlights for both the Sport Pkg for about $100 and non Sport Pkg for about $50.

Does anyone know what the difference is? I wouldn't have thought there would be any difference just on the model.

Also, is there a different bulb, say like an LED, that can be used so a new headlight won't end up melting.

Is the headlight your looking at an oem or aftermarket. Many here say oem is better than any aftermarket quality wise.

The difference might be that one is black inside and the other is chrome or some other color.

I got my truck almost 2 years ago and one of the first things I did was swap the DRLs to led. The lights already had some cracking and discoloration but after the leds I've seen no progression. To do the conversion you need to either put a resistor on each light or replace the flasher unit with one that is led compatible. If you dont put either of those on you will get hyper flash.

I have leds in everything except the headlights and map lights. Leds in the headlights create excessive glare and is generally frowned upon.

There was a recall on that issue, replaced for free. Not sure if it still works

Headlights from 2005-2011 are the same in every dimensional way, the TRD's had black chrome trim in them "smoked" without the yellow tinted DRL lenses, in 2012 the headlights changed shapes and you would need a new hood grill bumper and fill trims pieces to run 2012-2015 headlights.

Thanks all for your comments. In my case I am selling my 06 so was just looking to put in some headlights that would pass a safety check. I think I will order the non sport pkg aftermarket ones from Rockauto.

I'm getting a newer truck so will check out better lights for it.
