I have a very loud squeak coming from the lower ball joint driver side. I'm going to replace both upper and lower control arms.
#1 Would you replace the cam bolts?
#2 does anybody have a part number for the upper cam bolt? Almost all the part stores don't have this in stock and nobody seems to understand and be confident in the correct bolt.
I've got a very narrow wonder to do this because after you immediately get it aligned.

    Thanks!

I don’t refer the UCA bolts as cam bolts.
They are just bolts. The “cam” bolts are on the lower arm, they are adjustable.

When you get to the upper bolts, take a hammer / welding pliers……and beat the pinch weld in. Or don’t, and do it the hard way.

You’ll see what I am talking once you get under there.

The lca cam eccentrics famously seize. Depending on where you live, it may need to be cut out.

Dorman # for the upper bolt is 926-339. They can rust into the bracket or the bushings, but it's not nearly as common as the lower eccentrics rusting up, although I still slather them with copper anti-seize when I put them in. I reckon at least half those sold are to people who don't want to finagle stuff out of the way to remove them in one piece, so they cut them out.

Since they're simply bolts, it's pretty easy to check if they're going to need replacement... just back a hair off the nut, and see if you can then turn the bolt head.

If your lower arms aren't rusted to hell, I'd give some thought to whether you want to muck with new arms & potentially having to cut the cam bolts out (and buy new ones, IIRC doing it with OE parts is a good couple hundred bucks, and aftermarket ones are kinda junk comparatively) or avoid all that & press in new joints. Just be warned that the cup to remove the lowers isn't in most cheapo press kits, including most 'rentals'. I bought a decent chinesium one, and had to borrow the right cup off a friend.

I replaced the upper and lower control arm last night. So much easier than what could have happened. The truck is 20 years old and there wasn't a bit of rust and the bolts. The bolts were dusty - That's it. Tacoma lived its first 17 years in Houston, which I thought would have contributed to a little rust being near the gulf. Thanks everybody for your thoughts

they make aftermarket lca cam bolts with plastic sleeve so they don't seize up
