    2006 Tacoma owner for the past four years. Just started having some issues. Knock sensor needs to be replaced and was shocked that the motor top needs to be removed to accomplish this. Still love it though!

    Assuming you have the 4.0L it's more likely that rodents have chewed the knock sensor wires, the sensors themselves rarely fail.
    You don't need to remove a cylinder head to fix it but it's still a pretty big job, some people cut the brackets and remove the coolant pipe for better access but others have done it without removing the pipe.
