New taco(06 prerunner)I was replacing the third brake light (aftermarket ) and it simply didn't light up when I went to drive the truck it wouldn't shift into gear . I know about the release(override) button but brake lights won't work . I looked at the fuses(brake, tail ,lights, etc) and nothing under the hood or in the cab is blown . I changed out a few anyways just in case and still nothing . I went to the dealer and bought the brake light switch but still nothing . Has anyone ever had this issue ? I have the third light disconnected at the moment not sure if that matters .

Chmsl fuse maybe if the taco has one. We had this issue with a RAV4 once. Somebody put the wrong bulb in and blew the brake light fuse. Vehicle wouldn't go into gear and brake lights wouldn't work. Put the proper bulb in and replaced the fuse and it fixed it

Fuse #4 blew out twice so I thought I had it fixed the first time around until I checked a second time . Stealership said it might be the cylinoid in the trans:lalala:

The solenoid they are probably talking about is the Shift Lock Solenoid. It is operated when you depress the brake pedal to unlock the shift lever in an automatic. It is not in the transmission, but is under the shift cowling.

I think you still have a blown fuse or something wrong with the wiring you were doing around the third brake light. You didn't have this issue until the third brake light wiring correct?

I pulled every "numbered" fuse in the box, could you or anyone tell me from this image which fuse is number 4 that you are referring to? Truck is pretty useless right now and ready to call the tow truck, thanks in advance

Ooops, sorry. this is the relay locations.
I will see if i can find the fuse. I believe it should be on the inside of the cover too.

For those of you who may encounter this same situation (no brake lights, unable to place vehicle in drive without the override button pressed, but all fuses intact ) check your brake pedal sensor switch, once replaced everything was back to normal :thumbsup:IMG_0024.jpg
