2006 Tacoma, what can I tow?

I have a 2006 Tacoma 2X4 double-cab long bed. The dealer installed a trailer hitch and 4-pin wiring harness/connection, but I do not believe it has the true factory towing option.

How can I determine what I can tow? I mean, I have towed an open 5X9 trailer with a HD Fatboy on it 500 miles without incident a couple weeks ago. I think the trailer itself weights 900 lbs.

I am contemplating towing a golf cart (1000 lbs) in an enclosed box trailer (3,500 lbs) approximately 600 miles.. Do you think that's manageable with my setup? Otherwise I will use the 5X9 rig I used with the Harley only this time with a golf cart.

If your truck has the factory tow package your truck tow capacity is around 6500 lbs . If you don’t have the tow package the rating is 3500 lbs. If the dealer installed the hitch and plug then you do not have the tow package as it would have been installed at the factory.
Use the lighter trailer and you’ll be fine. Be sure to check what class/rating the hitch is that the dealer installed.
