Hey guys so I'm new here and I just picked up this 2006 tocoma it's the v6 6 speed sr5. When I bought it I was told it had a stall issue. They lady said it would happen maybe once a day and would start right back up again. So I buy it and got a pretty good deal on it for having this issue.

Sure enough it would random stall and just start up again pretty much right away. Time goes by and it's gettin more frequent. It's at the point where it starts and runs fine for about a min or 2 and stalls and will crank but not start again tell a minute or so goes by then starts again.

I have spent hours reading on here over the course of days and trouble shooting what I can and I'm stumped.

History on the truck from previous owner.
    - frame recall was done
-was told they changed the fuel pump and sending unit ( i think I have the receipts for this that came with truck)
    - new alternator, battery and starter

    -What I have done

I thought for sure it was the crank shaft position sensor as after it stalled i never noticed the tach not really moving When I was cranking it. So I changed it. No difference.
There is no codes, all the dash is staying on when it stalls its not loosing power.

Thanks to you guys on previous posts I have tried my second key, jumped the fule pressure resistor, jumped the fule realy no difference. Cleaned the MAF and no difference.
I took one of the coils off the plugs and plugged in a spark tester as the engine stalled I watched and it had spark the hole time. From the time it cut out, to when the rpm's hit zero pretty much.

I tried to spray gas in the intake immediately after it stalls and didn't work which is really messing me up?
I bought a cheap fule tester kit but of course there is no sharder valve so I have to pick up some fittings when I can to add one.

I'm going to try and upload a video but as I'm not the best with this stuff i may fail, but I'm going to try for everyone to see.

Any tips or ideas what to try is greatly appreciated.
I work often and will try to respond ASAP but because of the nature of my work I could be offline for days at a time so this could be a slow one sorry.

that sounds a *lot* like fuel starvation. did you check the fuel pump relay?

*edit* reading the post it seems you checked the relay.

three basics- check for fuel, air and spark. see if the coils are still firing when it stalls. the previous owner said they replaced the fuel pump, but do you "due diligence" and check it again. you have a scan tool? that might help if you can see the data output from fuel pump, spark (misfires) and maybe O2 sensors/MAF data.

Yes I jumped it and switched it out with another one made no difference. Every bone in my body is telling me fuel pump.
Yes I got a scan tool but it's not a good one it's not picking up any thing

That doesn't seem like fuel pressure to me, no sputter just shuts down.

Can you keep it running by feathering the throttle?

I'd be checking for spark or else checking fuel pressure as the issue occurs. Nail down whether it's spark or fuel then proceed from there, Throwing parts at it at this point inc the CPS are expensive guesses until you nail down what the motor isn't getting. Good luck!

Will it start if you press the gas a bit while cranking?

    Are the battery cables snug?

So you sprayed fuel into the intake after it stalled and nothing?
Have you ever checked spark right after it dies?

I mean, if you manually spray fuel in the intake and it won’t even sputter.
I don’t think I’m going to throw a fuel pump at it just yet.

No it won't say running no matter what you do with the fule peddle.it makes no difference what you do with the peddle.

Yes I shot fuel into the intake from what I assumed was the pcv hose and nothing from what I can tell. The problem is it starts so quick after it stalls so its hard to tell. I'm going to try again Thursday when I'm off work to get fuel to it before it starts again.

No I never checked spark after it died but I did watch the spark tester while it was dieing out and from the time it quit to the time the rpms hit zero there was spark I will check that as well Thursday. Once it dies out I will crank again and check for spark thanks for the replys thus far!

So here's another clue to this problem. If I was costing down a long enough hill and leave my truck in gear and don't touch anything after it dies, after the minute or so goes by, the truck will come back to life again. Rinse and repeat.

    Interesting

I think the next logical step would be to put a fuel pressure gauge on it and hook a test light into the fuel pump circuit and see if your losing pressure and/or fuel pump control right before it stalls.

Yes I will update Thursday when I'm off work I'm going to try and get the fittings to make my fuel pressure tester work and get a better check on the spark. It will be easier when I have another set of hands as well.

Yours is probably better quality though lol but those are "good enough" for a DIYer to check their fuel pressure.
