I'm curious why the TPMS light isn't coming on in my '06 5 lug when it probably should from what I've read in the sticky. I can confirm the TPMS system does function correctly. I had a tire blow out back in January and the system worked. The light stayed on until I got a new set of tires mounted (since only 4 of 5 had pressure).

I needed a second set of wheels for snow tires. Last week I bought a set of OEM 5 lug steel wheels from a 2013 that were only used for ~5K miles. Since the tires still have plenty of life left, I decided to swap the new wheels on and run them until next winter to save wear on the new set of tires I bought due to the prior blow out.

I've been running the new set of 2013 wheels for almost a week and expected the TPMS light to be on immediately since the new senors aren't coded (and there's a mismatch with the spare). I'm not complaining and I'm happy the light isn't on. Is the TPMS on my '06 truck less sophisticated and doesn't rely on coded sensors or will the light come on eventually? While the original set of wheel/tires is stored near the truck, I would still expect the light to come on when I start the truck up away from home.

How far are you driving away from the tires that have the sensors ? if you have them stored in the garage , the tpms will not illuminate for about 20 minutes of driving .
My tires are stored outside and the truck still sniffs the tpms . Takes about 20 minutes for the light to come on . Even after 1 ignition cycle , the light doesnt come on

My commute takes 25-35 minutes each way. I ran errands last weekend and was away from the original wheels for probably a total of 45 miles and 6 ignition cycles without triggering the light. I guess I'll have to wait until I take a longer drive to see if the light comes on. If the TPMS light is this infrequent and I can reset it when I'm parked at home, then this will be far less annoying than I predicated.

I was just curious of the TPMS system in my 2006 was less sophisticated and only needed to be in a presence of "Toyota" TPMS senors to be content.

Judging by the distance you travel , I know my light would come on with the 2010. Not sure if Toyota changed the time interval or how often the ecm checks the tpms . If memory serves me , the light pops up more often as time progresses
